The state House of Representatives will debate Monday a Ouachita Parish lawmaker's resolution calling on the federal government to defund Planned Parenthood, a move the national GOP abandoned as the gender gap widened into a chasm in favor of Democrats.
The bill by Rep. Frank Hoffmann, R-West Monroe, states that because "the slow and faltering emergence of the United States from the global economic recession of the late 2000s is regarded as a sign of difficult fiscal circumstances yet ahead for our nation" and Planned Parenthood gets federal funds and provides abortion services, it shouldn't get a federal dime. Planned Parenthood also provides contraceptive and family planning services to millions of low-income women and, although it is indeed the largest provider of abortion services in the United States, is arguably also the biggest abortion preventer.
Hoffman's resolution is non-binding; it merely "memorializes" Congress to defund PP.
