LPSS spokeswoman Simoneaux resigns

LPSS Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper confirmed Wednesday night that spokeswoman Angie Simoneaux had resigned earlier in the day.

Lafayette Parish School System Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper confirmed Wednesday night that spokeswoman Angie Simoneaux had resigned earlier in the day.

Cooper did not say what prompted the resignation, and Simoneaux did not return a phone message left on her cell phone Thursday morning.

Simoneaux, a former Advocate reporter who joined LPSS in 2005, according to her LinkedIn page, served as director of marketing and student recruitment since 2009. Often the spokeswoman for the system, Simoneaux also headed the Schools of Choice program.

Wednesday's resignation appears to have been an unexpected development, as the turnaround plan approved by the school board last night did retain Simoneaux.

Cooper was in meetings Thursday morning and could not be reached for comment.
