Fest Faves: Wonderful weather on tap

by Dominick Cross

Whether or not weather is discussed at Festival offices, well, the good news is that good weather is in the forecast throughout Festival's run that ends Sunday in downtown Lafayette.

Everybody talks about it - except for the folks at Festival International de Louisiane, and that's mostly because they don't want to jinx it - and that taboo subject is the weather.

Regardless of whether weather is discussed at Festival offices, the good news is that good weather is in the forecast throughout Festival's run that ends Sunday in downtown Lafayette.

When the music starts outdoors Wednesday night at Scene Malibu with Terry & the Zydeco Bad Boys, followed by Brian Jack & the Zydeco Gamblers, it looks to be a little breezy behind a south wind of 10-15 m.p.h. And while some wallflowers could consider it mildly cool-ish, say around 65 - the dancer in you can jack it up to 100 once you get your groove thing going on.

With that typed, here's the National Weather Service's forecast for Festival week with a side of commentary:

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 82. Southwest wind between 10 and 15 mph. A nice breeze to complement the absolutely lovely temps.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 66. South wind between 10 and 15 mph. Perfectly cool enough to dance the night away to get warmer.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. South wind around 15 m.p.h., with gusts as high as 20 m.p.h. A potentially windy day, but it's better than no wind at all, high temps and even higher humidity.

Thursday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind between 10 and 15 m.p.h. Opening ceremonies and that means Festival is here and in full gear and under festive evening skies.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. South wind between 10 and 15 m.p.h. Can you say perfect? Don't miss Canailles at Bach Lunch to make it an even more perfect afternoon.

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Can you say perfect - again?

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. South wind between 10 and 15 mph. And perfect yet again?

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. Mais! If it gets any better than this we'll not want the evening to end - maybe we can get a special weather permit to extend Festival's hours...

Sunday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Of course that also means an 80 percent chance of no showers and no T-storms going with the better odds on this one - Festival's cup is neither half-empty or half-full; it's filled to the brim.

Anyway, the saying, Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it, could be amended to Everybody talks about the weather, but in the meantime, Lafayette throws a festival -  Festival International.

The original saying is attributed to Mark Twain, but could be the words of Charles Dudley Warner, a friend of Twain. Go here for the scoop.
