International software developer Return to Scene, which helps improve communications in the offshore energy industry and also works with police forces and investigation agencies throughout the world to provide crime scene management, is opening its North American headquarters in Lafayette.
International software developer Return to Scene, commonly referred to as R2S, is opening its North American headquarters in Lafayette.
The company, which will initially locate in the Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise building, will create at least five content development positions locally before the end of the year.
Officials from the Lafayette Economic Development Authority joined R2S Managing Director Brian Dillon in making the announcement Thursday.
"When deciding on a location for our North American base it was easy to choose Lafayette," Dillon said in a press release. "The combination of the location with access to our key markets, the digital infrastructure, skilled labor pool and of course the service provided by the state and parish development agencies meant that we could stop our search once we saw what Lafayette had to offer."
R2S has developed its investigation management software to reduce costs and improve communications in the offshore energy market. R2S Visual Asset Management "captures" offshore assets using a blend of 360-degree spherical and standard digital photographic images as well as 2D and 3D modeled imagery to provide a virtual walk through, according to the release. This virtual representation of the offshore platform, rig or vessel can then be used as a gateway to access safety, operations or detailed survey information.
"Since 2003 Return To Scene has worked with police forces and investigation agencies throughout the world to provide crime scene management and digital media services," explains Dillon. "Recently we have been delighted to work with energy clients who have adopted the R2S methodology to manage their remote assets and to link data on everything from fabric maintenance anomalies to complete operations procedures and competence evidence."
The Lafayette office will be the first U.S. location for R2S, which has offices in Aberdeen, Scotland; and in Hereford and London, England. R2S will be a member of the Opportunity Machine, Lafayette's technology business accelerator and it will initially be housed at LITE. R2S will work closely with LITE developers to expand its product offerings to clients, primarily in the oil and gas sector.

The content development positions created by the company are the types of jobs that will keep our university graduates in the area and will entice former residents to return," LEDA President and CEO Gregg Gothreaux said in making the announcement. "R2S's concentration on serving energy clients from their Lafayette headquarters makes the company a complementary addition to Lafayette's business base."
