In case you haven't heard, the Bayou State turns 200 this year and to celebrate the Lafayette Science Museum is hosting a new exhibit titled Louisiana: 200 Years Later.
The exhibit, which opens tomorrow, tells the story of the state's early years and the many growing pains it has endured through its statehood through graphic panels, photographs and video kiosks. It also features a Civil War diorama complete with authentic weapons and artifacts on loan from the Port Hudson State Historic Site.
There's also the Fabrique Nationale/Browning/Winchester Collection, which features a small armory of more than 40 historic, rare and even modern firearms on loan from Belgium's Fabrique Nationale.
Louisiana: 200 Years Later opens Tuesday, May 1, at the Lafayette Science Museum. General admission for the museum is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors 62 and older, $2 for children between ages 4-17 and free for children 3 years and under. Museum hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Sunday from 1 - 6 p.m. For more information call 291-5544 or visit online at LafayetteScienceMuseum.org.
