This is actually a huge weekend for comic book geeks everywhere.  Tonight marks the premiere of what is widely considered the most anticipated superhero movie of all time, Marvel's The Avengers. And on top of seeing Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the Hulk teaming up to kick butt on the big screen, comic book shops all over the world will be handing out a free companion comic to the movie.

Lafayette's comic artists in residence are showing their support of their industry's holiday with the release of free comics that feature characters ranging from Superman to Charlie Brown starting at 10 a.m. at And Books Too, located at 3315 Johnston St.

Stick around after you've nabbed your free stack for an in-store book signing from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. featuring Lafayette's own Kody Chamberlain (Sweets, 30 Days of Night) and  Eisner award winner Rob Guillory (Chew) along with  Burt Durand (Horse eComics), Brent Peeples (Last of the Greats) and Jason Bienvenu (The Kingdom).

If you still didn't satisfy your ink fix then head over to the the South Regional Library at 3 p.m. for a free panel discussion and presentation about the ins and outs of comic book industry from the artists who live it. All aspiring graphic artists, writers and fans are encouraged to come and join in a dialogue of the comic book industry's growing foothold in Acadiana.
