A new application for Android levels the playing field for would-be actors, production workers, technicians, caterers and others who want to earn some bread in the movies. Casting Call, developed by Lafayette-based 3rd Dimension Media, keeps tabs on movies that are starting production throughout the state and provides info on who to contact to get in on the action. You can also view movie trailers on the app. And it has a feature that promotes local businesses - photography, animation, makeup, etc. - that play a role in the making of movies. Casting Call is 99 cents for the download; available for Android 2.2 (and up) devices. A company rep tells us they'll probably roll out a Casting Call for iPhone soon. - Walter Pierce
