A community desperate for answers into the disappearance of Mickey Shunick will gather at Parc Sans Souci in downtown Lafayette Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil for the missing woman, a day after her 22nd birthday and a little more than three days after she vanished while riding her bicycle from the Saint Street area to her home near the Congress-Ambassador intersection.

The FBI has joined local law enforcement and a legion of friends and relatives in the search for Shunick, whom friends and family say is a responsible individual and conscientious cyclist who always took side streets to avoid traffic. Shunick missed her brother's graduation Saturday night in addition to her birthday Monday.

A $10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to her return. Friends and family have also expressed frustration with police policy regarding missing persons, which led to a two-day delay before law enforcement officially joined the search. Police ask anyone who witnessed suspicious activity along Shunick's presumed route to call 291-8633. Those with a possible tip - any tip - can also send an email to [email protected]. A Facebook page devoted to the search for Shunick includes photos of the woman and her bicycle and a map of the route she is believed to have taken in the dark hours Saturday morning.
