Landry's 'Sharecroppers Whine' fete tonight

by Dominick Cross

Drew Landry's 2008 "Sharecropper's Whine" will be released in the UK today on Blue Rose Records, and in honor of that, he's throwing a big ol' gig also today, 8 p.m., at Bourque's Social Club, in Scott.

Trying to get a hold of Drew Landry these days has been difficult with his phone message cache full. He was in the office last week talking to Walter Pierce and I ducked out to grab some food to go figuring I'd catch upon my return.

I was wrong - and I've not been able to catch up with him since.

Anyway, Landry's 2008 "Sharecropper's Whine" will be released in the UK today on Blue Rose Records, and in honor of that, he's throwing a big ol' gig at Bourque's Social Club, 8 p.m., today.

According to a press release, you can expect a ton of musicians who played on it - including Michael Juan, Lee Allen, Kenneth Richard, Lori Lemmelle, Juian Primeaux, and many others - to show up at the fete.

Landry writes:

Without the help of many of my musical peers and heroes this project would have died long ago... When we recorded this project, I didn't have the resources to pay for the session and J Burton let me pay on time.

Landry goes on:

I didn't have the resources to promote the Album or the band, but I scraped by playing solo gigs and throwing together pick-up bands around the country. As I progressed as a musician (and some say as a human being) my guitar playing and stage presence matured.

The album features there bonus tracks: Make it Rhyme, Open Range and 3rd World Country Blues.

Landry gives a shout out to Kenneth Richard and Al Berard who "have helped through the years with songwriting and life," as well as Jason Valdetero, Glen Fields and Eric Frey.

Sharecroppers Whine features Kenny Allemon, Bird and Burny Watson who played drums on various tracks; Roger Kash on mandolin, Benny Graef, Fred, Andrew Duplantis (bass and vocals), Becca Begnaud, Lori Lemelle (vocals), Blake Simon, Richard Comeaux on steel guitar, Jason Meaux, Jonno Frishberg (fiddle), Dennis Paul Williams, Anthony Dopsie. Additional tracks feature Roddie Romero, Eric Adcock, Sam Brossard, Chad Willis and Catherine Planet.
