The 8th annual Opelousas Spice and Music Festival opens at 6:30 tonight with Geno Delafose and French Rockin' Boogie, followed by Horace Trahan and the New Ossun Express. Chris Ardoin & NuStep close the show.

Spice is nice

Zydeco stars Chris Ardoin and NuStep headline the 8th annual Opelousas Spice and Music Festival Friday and Saturday at South City Park, just off I-49 exit 18, in Opelousas.

The festival opens at 6:30 tonight with Geno Delafose and French Rockin' Boogie, followed by Horace Trahan and the New Ossun Express. Chris Ardoin & NuStep close the show.

Saturday's lineup includes J. Paul and the Zydeco Nubreedz, Jamie Bergeron and the Kickin' Cajuns, Leon Chavis and the Zydeco Flames, and Ardoin's band.

The festival also includes food, arts and crafts and a kids' activity center with a fun jump and rock wall. RV parking is available.

Good taste for a cause

On Saturday, 11 .m. to 4 p.m., Tropical Smoothie at 458 Heymann Blvd will host a fundraiser for Summer Youth Shakespeare Ensemble. The organization will receive 15 percent of sales. So while you're enjoying tasty food you can meet with company member and  parents of SYSE students.

BluesBerry Fest, II

The 2nd annual BluesBerry Festival, set for Saturday, 6 p.m. at the Blue Moon Saloon. In addition to music by A.J. Primeaux hosting a front porch blues jam session, Henry Gray & the Cats, and Cedric Burnside, there's a Blueberry Dish Tasting competition, a Blue Dat fashion contest and it's all preceded by a bike ride.

Downtown Lafayette's Movies in the Parc presents Up, Saturday, at Parc International.
