If you're a sports fan, you may want to add 103.7 FM to your favorites list.
Local sports talk radio is now reaching a much wider Acadiana audience.
Delta Media Corp. Monday announced the launch of "The Game," Acadiana's first-ever FM station devoted to sports talk. The new 24-hour Fox Sports affiliate, 103.7 on the FM dial, is devoted to local scores, highlights, sports news, interviews, commentary and analysis, according to a press release announcing the format change.
The weekday lineup includes nationally-known sports personalities like Dan Patrick and Jim Rome.
The station was previously SNAP 103.7, playing classics mixed in with newer hits. It hit the airwaves in May 2010 as a classic hits station with an emphasis on classic rock.
"Acadiana's passion for sports is legendary," Program Director Chris Numan says in the announcement. "The time has come for the best sports fans in the universe to finally have a place they can call home on the FM dial." Numan will also host a daily morning show with sportscaster Jeff Horchak, who does weekend sports for KLFY TV-10. The Horchak and Numan show airs weekdays from 6 to 8 a.m.
The Game will offer Fox Sports and local interest programming. Delta Media says in addition to covering local high school athletics, the Ragin' Cajuns and the Saints, The Game will also be the new play-by-play home of the LSU Tigers and St. Thomas More Football.
The station is owned by Charles Chatelain's Carencro-based Delta Media Corp. The group owns four TV stations, MeTV (KLWB), RTV (KDCG), This TV (KXKW) and The CW (KBCA in Alexandria); and five radio stations: KLWB (The Game 103.7), KOGM (KOOL 107.1), KXKW (MUSTANG 87.7), KSLO AM 1230 and KSLO FM 105.3.
Acadiana's only other sports radio format, ESPN 1420 AM, which broadcasts most UL sports, is owned by Townsquare Media. The radio group often simulcasts UL sports on is sister station, 107.9 FM, to compensate for the AM station's weak nighttime signal outside of the city limits, says longtime sports writer and Ind contributor Dan McDonald.
