Two of the tax renewals - for police and fire department salaries and benefits - would be voted on only by city of Lafayette voters. The remaining three taxes for the public library system, drainage and Lafayette Regional Airport are parish-wide funding sources.
The property tax funding police pay and benefits is a 10-year, 3-mill tax that generates $3.65 million annually. For the fire department it's a 10-year, 2-mill tax that brings in $2.43 million annually. On the parish side, property owners currently pay a 10-year, 2-mill tax that generates $3.28 million for library services; a 10-year, 3.34 mill tax ($5.49 million) for drainage maintenance, operations and upkeep; and a 10-year, 1.71-mill tax ($2.81 million) for the airport.
