Three local men who made unsuccessful bids for public office last year are asking the Louisiana Board of Ethics to waive fines levied against them for failing to file campaign-finance reports on time.
Opelousas Mayor Don Cravins Sr., who failed to unseat state Sen. Elbert Guillory, faces a $2,500 fine. Cravins' fine, however, is related to a 2010 personal financial statement filed late. Another candidate in that Senate District 24 race, Kelly J. Scott, is facing $720 in fines. The board hit Mike Stagg, currently employed as the co-communications director for the Louisiana Democratic Party, with a total of $4,300 in fines. Staff ran unsuccessfully against City-Parish President Joey Durel last fall.
