AcA taking apps for residency program

It's the Acadiana Center for the Arts' residency program and if your performing arts company is in the Acadiana region (Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Landry and Vermilion parishes), then it's for you.

It's a deal any performing arts company simply can't refuse. And there are two opportunities to get in on it, too.

It's the Acadiana Center for the Arts' residency program and if your performing arts company is in the Acadiana region (Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Landry and Vermilion parishes), then it's for you.

The concept allows performing organizations access to the AcA facilities, free of charge, for the development, rehearsal and performance of a play, dance performance or multi-media performance art piece. And that includes the promotion and marketing of your event.

Companies will be able to utilize the James Devin Moncus Theater for rehearsal days, a tech/dress rehearsal night and three performance dates.

And like all good things in life, there's some give-and-take going on. During the residency, the residency company will be required to provide at least one of the following: a master class, an outreach activity, workshop or panel discussion.

It's a way of not only giving back, but to also engage in a community based education program by to the AcA community. After all, it's art for art's sake.

In a lot of ways, the residency program is a Bring Your Own deal as companies are responsible for the things they'd want to be anyway, such as set/lighting design, set and costume procurement, talent and auditions, stage management and directing/choreography.

Applications deadlines are 5 p.m., Aug. 10 and Nov. 9. You'll be notified either Aug.  24 or Nov. 23 if your company is selected.  Rehearsals for first residency is Sept. 10-13 for rehearsal; and Sept. 14-16 for the performance. Rehearsals for the second residency is Jan. 7-10, 2013 for rehearsal, with performance dates  Jan. 11-13.

Applications can be downloaded here or by calling 337-233-7060.
