In its quest to add a splash of world culture into Acadiana's own cultural stew, Casa Azul Gifts will be hosting a special free screening of the documentary When the Drum is Beating from director Whitney Dow tomorrow.
The film documents the veteran Haitian band Septentrional Orchestra, which blends a Cuban big band sound with Haitian voodoo beats, and details the band's exploits throughout its 60-year history in Haiti. The film reveals a unique vision of Hati through the perspective of the band and delivers the immense passion and spirtual union the band feels toward its motherland.
