Former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards, who turned a spry 85 years old today, Aug. 7, tells a New Orleans television station he and his 32-year-old wife Trina Scott Edwards will try to replicate their genes this fall. WWL.com is reporting that the elder Edwards says he and his buxom bride have been discussing the likelihood of having a baby for some time.
Edwards also tacitly acknowledges that his masculine midriff may not be as functional as it once was: "We're making arrangements to retrieve some sperm specimens that I have and we plan to use that," EWE told the station, "although those plans aren't certain yet. At any event, it will be at least October before any further efforts are made."
Assuming the fertilization is successful, Edwards will be nearly 86 when his newest addition is born. He would need to live to 104 to see the child graduate from college. The former governor acknowledges to the station that fathering a child at such an advanced age might be hard for the public to accept. Trina Edwards, meanwhile, says on her Facebook page that regardless of the child's gender, he/she will have EWE as initials.
