Six months removed from his annual Independent-sponsored "State of the Parish" address, City-Parish President Joey Durel will provide an update on the fiscal health and future fortunes of Lafayette Consolidated Government during what's being dubbed a "Follow the Money" State of the Parish 2.0 address Wednesday morning at the Petroleum Club. The event kicks off at 7 a.m.

Durel's presentation comes amid tight budget times for consolidated government. The three-term Republican has proposed moderate to severe reductions in the budgets of several LCG departments as the cost of running local government - due in large part to new state mandates for retirement benefits plus the skyrocketing cost of fuel - outpaces revenue from sales and property taxes. Durel has characterized his proposed 2012-2013 budget as the most difficult he's had to deal with since being sworn into office in 2004.

Durel is also expected to deliver some "breaking news" on the recently inked deal purchasing the Horse Farm from UL in a cash/land swap deal.

Admission to the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce-sponsored event is $35 for the general public, $25 for chamber members. Click here to register.
