The City-Parish Council is holding its final hearing on Mayor Joey Durel's proposed $581 million budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year on Thursday. The meeting begins at 1 p.m. in council auditorium at City Hall. Council members will look at the proposed budgets for a host of departments under the LCG umbrella: city court, city marshal, the district attorney's office, the offices of the assessor and registrar of voters, animal control, the public libraries and the coroner's office, among others. Also under consideration is funding of the Cajundome. On Thursday Aug. 30 a public hearing on the budget will be held at 5:30 p.m. followed a week later by a 1 p.m. wrap-up session. The council will vote to finalize the budget on Thursday, Sept. 13.
