Cajun chef and former Times of Acadiana and Times-Picayune food writer Marcelle Bienvenu has put the delicacies of Bon Temps, La., fictional setting of the popular HBO vampire drama True Blood, into recipe form.

A St. Martinville native who now teaches at Nicholl's State University in Thibodaux, Bienvenu tells the Associated Press she had never seen the series before being asked to come up with recipes, but she was surprised when she did see some episodes just how much Louisiana's culinary traditions play into the True Blood story. "I sat down and watched it with my notebook, and I was amazed how much food was mentioned in the series," she said. "It was fun making the recipes come to life. I think people are still mystified by south Louisiana food. There's still such a mystique about the food and culture here."
The cookbook, which also features recipes for True Blood-inspired cocktails, is available in bookstores and via Amazon.
