Barna Haynes resigns from DA's office

by Leslie Turk

Mike Harson's longtime office administrator who has been on unpaid leave since March 12 has resigned.

Barna Haynes, 15th Judicial District Attorney Mike Harson's office administrator for more than three decades (she also worked for him before he was DA), has resigned. Harson confirmed to The Advocate that Haynes, who was placed on unpaid leave March 12 in the wake of a federal probe into the way OWI cases were handled by the DA, resigned Aug. 28.

Harson told the paper Haynes gave no specific reason for her resignation.

Haynes' resignation came only days before veteran prosecutor Keith Stutes' last day; the 28-year prosecutor cited the federal investigation among the reasons for his decision to retire at this time.

After the feds came calling, Stutes launched his own inquiry into OWI prosecutions by the DA's office. Harson told The Advocate those findings were forwarded to the Attorney General's Office.
