Passing the Smell Test

by Leslie Turk

Cathy Irwin thinks it's the best new product for front load washers. "I'm using it in mine and love it," she says in a Facebook post. "I've been using it for three weeks and I have no smell - nothing." But what's really best about BluDri is that it's local, a product researched, developed marketed right here in Lafayette by Heathyr McDaniel and Amy Braun.

Caroline & Co. is now stocking BluDri, a product marketed by Amy Braun and Heathyr McDaniel.

BluDri all but eliminates the need for a tub cleaner for your front-load washer, which you probably love (especially if it's one of those ultra-modern-looking models) but don't like cleaning to get rid of the musty smell that develops because the door is sealed so tightly to prevent water from leaking. A little water often gets trapped inside the washer, which can lead to smelly mold and mildew build up. However, tossing BluDri into your washer after removing your laundry will dry it out.

Before using the product for the first time, your washing machine should be cleaned because BluDri will not remove existing mildew/mold; rather, it reduces moisture to prevent new growth (because there is mold/mildew in places you cannot see, BluDri may take several weeks to work).

Depending on how often you use BluDri, it generally lasts up to three months. Keep in mind that you will need to regenerate it in a microwave once it becomes pink - after the moisture is removed, it'll turn blue again. BluDri is available at Caroline & Co. at 113 Arnould Blvd. for $20.
