KATC: 3 officers suing PD no longer on force

by Leslie Turk

As of this week, officers Scott Poiencot, Greg Cormier and Gabe Thompson are no longer with the Lafayette Police Department, the station reports.

Three plaintiffs in the suit against Lafayette Consolidated Government and the Lafayette Police Department are no longer with the force, KATC is reporting. When they sued their superiors and local government earlier this year, alleging widespread corruption within the department, Scott Poiencot, Greg Cormier and Gabe Thompson were Lafayette police officers. Based on a public records request made by reporter Erin Steuber, as of this week that's no longer the case.

The station was unable to determine why the officers are no longer on the force.

The suit, initially filed in February and dismissed in June in state district court, was soon after refiled in federal court.

The group of nine former and current officers appeared in federal court Friday morning. A gag order is preventing the parties from talking with the media or discussing the case on the Internet.
