Woops! CPC ‘inadvertently' omits amendments

The Lafayette City-Parish Council has scheduled a special meeting in addition to Tuesday night's regular meeting so council members can fix an oversight from last week's meeting during which the council finalized the 2012-2013 fiscal year budget. Council members approved a separate budget for the Communications Department but forgot to vote on an amendment to that budget. Council members also forgot to vote to two other amendments to separate budget ordinances.

District 7 Councilman Don Bertrand tells IND Monthly the oversight occurred during the onset of confusion as council members discussed city- and parish budget allocations; council Chairman Jared Bellard simply forgot to return to the amendments. "There were three general amendments," Bertrand says. "One of them got brought up for discussion and the motions were made and we got to talking about allocations, a rather lengthy discussion about allocations, and the chair just moved on to the next one and nobody caught it."

Bertrand says he expects the amendments to all be approved in rapid order. Because they're introductory items they'll need to be voted on again in two weeks.
