The Cajundome will continue to receive half a million dollars in support from Lafayette Consolidated Government after the City-Parish Council Tuesday approved a five-year extension of the contract between the two entities. The lone dissenter was District 9 Councilman William Theriot who argued the $500,000 could be better spent on salaries for firefighters.

City-Parish President Joey Durel had sought a $50,000 increase in LCG's subsidy for the coliseum but the council shot that down a couple of weeks ago. The subsidy helps the facility cover utilities and other costs. LCG has had a contractual relationship with the dome for 25 years, since shortly after the UL Lafayette-owned facility was constructed at state expense.
