Cité screens 'Freedom for Birth'

by Wynce Nolley

Cité des Arts will take place in the global screening of the women's civil rights documentary "Freedom for Birth."

Tonight marks the global release of the hour-long human rights documentary "Freedom for Birth" and Cité des Arts will join more than 1,000 other venues all over the world in screening the film.

"Freedom for Birth" takes an in-depth look at how women in countries all over the world are being denied the most basic of human rights toward how they choose to give birth and what they can do with their own bodies.

The film also looks at the adversity and civil rights abuse that women have encountered including women being ordered by a judge to succumb to surgery, threatened with having their babies taken away by child welfare services, and even being jailed as one Hungarian midwife discovered after helping another woman achieve a natural birth.

Cité des Arts will hold its free screening of "Freedom of Birth" tonight at 6:30 p.m. For more information on "Freedom of Birth" click here.
