Celebs feel the rainbow on the Emmy red carpet

The Emmy's brought some serious color to the carpet Sunday night with dresses hinting at the rich shades of fall while proving that bright is still beautiful.

Vibrant tangerine Monique Lhuillier on Gennifer Goodwin and yellow of the mustard variety spotted on three ladies (our pick goes to Angela Chase ... er ... Claire Danes) along with a muted lavender Zac Posen on Kelly Osborne proved our sources were right color is huge for fall.

According to Vanessa V. owner, Vanessa Vicari, color that appeared in the spring by way of denim and color blocking has lingered and looks to continue into fall.

"Designers have decided to let the fun continue into fall. Don't be afraid to wear fuchsia, teal, orange, red and purple in major ways this fall," Vanessa says.

The ladies on the red carpet certainly weren't scared of some color. (Although we did see a fair share of gunmetal hues, fleshy nudes and a few golden girls. But, frankly most of those muted gals save for Kerry Washington left us uninspired.)

Perhaps our top pick at the Emmy's was funny gal Tina Fey in Vivienne Westwood. The woman may nail a punch line every time, but the not-so-funny truth is that she's botched a couple red carpets over the years. And so we are delighted to report she killed this wine embellish-trimmed perfectly draped dress.

While I love a funky gal, I'd be a liar if I didn't admit to being mystified by Kelly Osborne's absurd hair on most occasions. (Grey? Why would you choose grey hair? And don't get me started on her cassette tape tattoo.) But, there was something utterly fabulous about her lavender one-shoulder dress. Kind of Old Hollywood on acid. It works.

Hayden Panettiere was an absolute goddess in her Marchesa dress draped in rich blue. It was that rare dress that both moved beautifully as she walked the stage and photographed well.

And Claire Danes in Lanvin proved there is the perfect dress for the baby bump. At this rate she'll be the next Natalie Portman as my poster girl for red carpet style with baby on board.

Allison Williams was our favorite newcomer on the carpet in a peplum-decked structured green dress from Oscar de la Renta. Another dress that photographed beautifully.  And Julia Louis-Dreyfus continued her class act streak on the red carpet in a very fall colored rust dress by Vera Wang and pop of color in contrasting earrings. A great example of how to easily marry colors.
