'Beekeeping in Acadiana'

by Heather Miller

Get the buzz on bees and a lil taste of honey during the next installment of CCET's Backyard Series at the Vermilionville Performance Center from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The free event will feature several members of Acadiana Beekeepers, including Emily Neustrom, a horticulture therapist/amateur beekeeper.

"They'll give an overview of beekeeping and its history, discuss seasonal plants and how they determine the kind of honey the bees produce," reads the Center for Cultural & Eco Tourism's press release.

Tuesday's discussion also will hit on the issue of Colony Collapse Disorder and how Chinese-imported honey is not 100 percent pure.

The Backyard Series is an all-ages, free event hosted by CCET and supported by Acadiana Center for the Arts, Louisiana Division of the Arts and the Vermilionville Foundation.
