A statewide survey released Monday finds U.S. Sen. David Vitter leading a hypothetical field of six candidates in the 2015 gubernatorial race, according to The Times-Picayune. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu was the only other candidate to receive more than 10 percentage points in the Magellan Strategies BR survey of 2,682 likely voters. When pitted against each other, Vitter leads Landrieu by nearly 5.5 percent.

The survey also bodes poorly for Louisiana's senior U.S. senator: More than 50 percent of respondents say they would prefer a new candidate over Sen. Mary Landrieu while only 37 percent indicate they would vote to re-elect her.

Not surprising in the poll are the results of the presidential preference question: Mitt Romney leads Barack Obama 59 to 36 percent.
