If you're still scrambling for ideas as to what your costume will be for Halloween, then Cite' des Arts may have you covered with its Steampunk fashion workshop on Saturday, Oct. 13.
On Saturday, Oct. 13, costume designer Lauren Greene Whyte will host a fashion workshop on the finer details of the Steampunk movement, which is a science-fiction literary sub-genre often set in an alternate 19th century Victorian era or post-apocalyptic Wild West-esque backdrop that places a heavy emphasis on steam as the predominant power source (think Jane Austen meets Jules Verne).
Participants are invited to bring a bucket of miscellaneous parts and vintage clothing to design and accessorize their costumes including cogs, metal rings, old keys, leather gloves, wool jackets, top hats, wire rim glasses, pipes, buckles, umbrellas, etc.
The workshop also serves as a precursor for Cite's upcoming Steampunk Festival coming November 10, which will feature a fashion show with a top prize of $100 going to whomever has the best costume design.
