Shake your trail feather Saturday in Breaux Bridge

by Walter Pierce

The new Bayou Teche Paddle Trail will be christened at this awesome event Saturday in Breaux Bridge.

One of IND Monthly's favorites, David Egan

Bayou Teche is one of the most beautiful, meandering waterways in South Louisiana. Its historic and cultural value to the region is close to the hearts of many, not the least of whom are the folks at the T.E.C.H.E. Project, a non-profit working to raise awareness of the waterway's significance. T.E.C.H.E. Project recently announced a new venture, The Bayou Teche Paddle Trail, created in partnership with the National Park Service. But these efforts - not to mention, but we will, keeping the bayou free of debris through a satellite group called Cajuns for Bayou Teche - don't come cheap.

That's why you will attend a special musical fundraiser, Shake Your Trail Feather, on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the cumbersomely named Parc des Ponts de Pont Breaux. It's in Breaux Bridge. Pont means bridge in French. The park is the location of the original bridge after which the city is named. That's kind of cool.

The Bayou Teche Paddle Trail will be fĂȘted at the event, along with christening of a kiosk depicting trail maps and local history, an improved launch for boats and kayaks and new restroom facilities. There will be a guided paddle trip in the morning along with food, beverages and activities for the kiddies.

Musical performances by Bonsoir Catin, David Egan and Roddie Romero & The Hub City Allstars will highlight the event.
Shake Your Trail Feathers runs from noon to 6 p.m. and is free.
