Kopplin, who has waged a two-year and so-far unsuccessful battle to repeal the Louisiana Science Education Act - a deceptively named 2008 law that allows science teachers in public schools to supplement their curricula with Intelligent Design, a 21st-century version of creationism - will urge DOE officials to remove 20 schools that are receiving publicly funded vouchers and who also reject Darwinian evolutionary theory and unabashedly teach medieval creationism.
Now a sophomore at Rice University in Houston and a graduate of Baton Rouge Magnet High School, Kopplin is appearing before the DOE at the request of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers. His appearance is scheduled for 2 p.m. and can viewed on live streaming video here.
