After fits, starts and cancellations, voters in Lafayette will finally get the opportunity to hear - although not to see - rival GOP Congressmen Charles Boustany of Lafayette and Jeff Landry of New Iberia square off in a debate. Camp Boustany has confirmed that each is scheduled to participate in a live, on-air debate at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 on KPEL, 96.5 FM.

The sudden scheduling of the debate follow's a challenge Boustany issued Thursday to Landry. The pair was scheduled to debate on Oct. 15 in Angelle Hall on the UL campus but the event fell through amid a series of miscommunications among the journalism and political science departments and the congressmen's offices.

The rival campaigns have increasingly gone for the jugular as the Nov. 6 election approaches, spending thousands on negative TV and radio ads.
