BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration has chosen a private company to help devise a strategy for improving collection of millions of dollars in unpaid debts owed to state agencies.
Jindal's top budget adviser, Commissioner of Administration Kristy Nichols, announced Thursday that CGI Technologies and Solutions Inc. will do the work.
Nichols' spokesman Michael DiResto said CGI's proposed cost was just under $200,000, but the details of the contract haven't been finalized.
In September, the Jindal administration outlined plans to intensify debt collection efforts, after complaints that the state has been too lax in seeking payment for delinquent accounts, which topped $1 billion in a recent tally.
Virginia-based CGI has done other work for the state, providing data storage and technology services for hurricane recovery programs.
