New cupcakery opens on Bertrand

by Elizabeth Rose

Everything Else is Cake is a new bakery that specializes in not just cupcakes, but also gluten-free and paleo versions of the same treats. Co-owners Chasity Hooks, Lana Nezat, Tiffany Faul and Lori Hebert opened Everything Else is Cake for business on Thursday and welcome all Lafayette residents with a sweet tooth to stop by.

Everything Else is Cake has a case full of cupcakes every day, full of both traditional and gluten-free cupcakes and breads, as well as paleo breads and granola. To keep cross-contamination down, Everything Else is Cake has a separate oven and tools for gluten-free goodies. The cupcakes come in traditional flavors, like chocolate with chocolate ganache, or with creative variations for the daring, including buttered orange cider with orange spice buttercream. The regular cupcakes are $2.25 and gluten-free are $2.75.

But don't leave the premises without trying a macaroon, specifically the pistachio macaroon. It's delicious, filled with vanilla buttercream and is small enough to be a guilt-free treat. The case also holds a variety of cookies, like the raspberry vinegar cookie, the rosemary hazelnut cookie and the chocolate chip crunch.

There are plans to open up a drive-thru window in about a month for those on the go. There is one bakery blend coffee, and the bakery can also make cakes by request, but they ask for one week advanced notice.

Find Everything Else is Cake at 200 Bertrand across the street from Legends. The shop is open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Find out more on Facebook or at their website.
