Tragedy hits Cooper family

Lafayette superintendent's younger sister killed in motorcycle accident in Monroe. Lafayette Parish Schools Superintendent Pat Cooper's younger sister, Corinne Adele Henry of West Monroe, was killed Saturday afternoon when she lost control of her motorcycle and struck an oncoming vehicle.

The Monroe News-Star reported that State Police Troop F investigated the accident, which occurred around 1:34 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Dean Chapel Road and Arkansas Road in West Monroe.

State Police said the 55-year-old was northbound on her 2012 Tao motorcycle when she made a right turn on Arkansas Road, according to the paper. At that time, she lost control of her motorcycle, crossed the center line and was struck head-on by a westbound GMC Envoy driven by 17-year-old Christopher A. Dean of West Monroe.

Henry was ejected from the motorcycle and taken to Glenwood Regional Medical Center where she later died from her injuries. State Police told the newspaper Henry was wearing a Department of Transportation and Development-approved helmet.

No other injuries were reported, according to the paper, and impairment is not suspected. The crash remains under investigation.

Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation is Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. 11:30 a.m.

A Funeral Mass will be at noon in St. Paschal Catholic Church in West Monroe.
