Well, that depends on who's answering the question, but a poll commissioned by Camp Boustany shows Landry far behind heading to the Dec. 8 runoff. Perhaps hoping to deliver a symbolic coup de grace three weeks before the Dec. 8 runoff, the campaign of U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Lafayette, has released a poll showing the retired heart surgeon ahead of Tea Party-favored fellow GOP Congressman Jeff Landry of New Iberia by nearly 30 points. In the fact-based reality from which Tea Party Nation long ago seceded, that's probably an insurmountable lead. But, well, you know.
Conducted Nov. 11-12 among 400 likely voters including 80 cell phone respondents by Public Opinion Strategies and commissioned by the Boustany campaign, the poll finds Boustany leading Landry 56-29 percent. (The poll has a nearly 5 percent margin of error.)
What's more, filtering out the non-GOP respondents, Boustany still maintains a 53-37 percent advantage over Landry with Republicans. Among conservative, white voters the margin narrows: 51-38. Boustany's favorable/unfavorable ratio, according to the poll, is 65/25 while Landry's is weighted toward unfavorable at 39/41. And among the 23 percent of respondents who could correctly name the date of the runoff - an indication they are very likely to vote - Boustany's lead ticks up to 59-28.
