Saint Street Inn kicks off Saturday brunch

The first Saturday brunch is chock full of farm-to-table goodies, music and free Bloody Marys.

Saint Street Inn will begin serving brunch every Saturday, and this weekend's morning meal is the kick-off event for the weeks to come.

Brunch officially starts at 10:30 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. with breakfast and lunch favorites sandwiched between. The farm-to-table restaurant is applying the same methods to the brunch menu, with bread from Poupart's, eggs and produce from local farmers markets, pork from the Eunice Superette and beef from the Cajun Prairie.

"I refuse to eat breakfast - at least before 11 a.m.," says Mary Tutwiler, Saint Street Inn's chef and co-owner. "But by noon, I'm always looking for eggs and bacon."

And the brunch menu reflects that. There are classic breakfast dishes for the early risers, and a full sandwich menu for those post-nooners.

For breakfast, there's the classic: eggs, bacon or andouille and biscuit. The mushroom omelet boasts local Mushroom Farm's oyster, shiitake and crimini mushrooms with goat cheese, or try the breakfast burrito with eggs, potatoes, grilled onions and peppers and jalapeño pork sausage with chipotle and tomatillo salsas.

For something a little different, try the BEAST - a croissaint topped with bacon, a fried egg, avocado, sprouts, tomato, mayonnaise and creole mustard - or the salmon and eggs, another croissaint with smoked salmon, fried egg and dill cream cheese. Perhaps the most decadent of the breakfasts, however, is the pork belly benedict: biscuits topped with braised pork belly, poached eggs and pepper jelly hollandaise.

If lunch is more your speed, start with an appetizer of sweet potato crab cakes with balsamic Sriracha sauce, or the LA surf and turf with grilled Louisiana gator, jalapeño and andouille sausage, Steen's syrup and creole mustard. Follow it up with one of Saint Street Inn's now-famous sandwiches or burgers, like one of the four burgers made from local grass-fed beef (it really makes a difference) or the Peacemaker with crispy fried oysters, bacon, mayo, creole mustard and mint-jalapeno coleslaw.

The kick-off party also includes music from Caleb Elliott (who is also performing at Pack & Paddle's Pint Night Friday) with Sam Broussard - and did we mention free Bloody Marys?
