It's not as if Las Vegas doesn't have enough panhandlers, but The Times-Picayune, citing multiple sources, is reporting that Gov. Bobby Jindal waved a tin cup last month before billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, the fat cat who dropped more than $100 million on Republican campaigns in the last election cycle - he didn't get much return on his investment - and has vowed to double down his efforts in 2016.
Citing The Wall Street Journal, Politico and Salon, The T-P says Jindal, along with up to four other GOP governors, popped into the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino a week after the Nov. 6 election to meet with Adelson and be to be simultaneously awesome and sycophantic. The Republican state executives were in Sin City for a conference for the Republican Governors Association, of which Jindal is chairman.
Adelson, whose personal wealth is estimated at more than $21 billion, directly backed nine candidates this past election cycle. Eight of them including Mitt Romney lost. But money is money, and whoever secures the 2016 GOP nomination will need lots of it to compete.
