BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - State health officials say they have reached arrangements with private health facilities to take over some of the care at three LSU public hospitals across south Louisiana including University Medical Center in Lafayette.
Details of the specific arrangements for the LSU hospitals in New Orleans, Houma and Lafayette are set to be released Monday by Health and Hospitals Secretary Bruce Greenstein and university health care leaders.
Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration has been working to shift more of the university-run health care for the poor and uninsured to private hospitals, as a way to cut state costs.
Jindal stripped more than $300 million in state and federal funding for the LSU health system after Louisiana's Medicaid financing was reduced by Congress.

The Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors also announced Monday morning that it has scheduled a special meeting for Friday to consider memoranda of understanding in connection with the operation of the three LSU public hospitals.
The meeting starts at 10 a.m. in the board meeting room of the LSU System Building at 3810 West Lakeshore Drive in Baton Rouge.
