After unexpectedly resigning her post Wednesday, Northside High Principal Melinda Voorhies has changed her mind, according to a release sent today by the Lafayette Parish School System. Northside High School Principal Melinda Voorhies will remain, according to a Lafayette Parish School System press release sent this afternoon.

Voorhies, who was brought out of retirement this year by Cooper to help spark a resurgence at the traditionally low-performing school, made headlines Wednesday after going AWOL.

According to the release, Voorhies has since rescinded her resignation and will continue in her post as the school's top administrator.

"Ms. Voorhies has many gifts and has done a phenomenal job at NHS and made a positive impact on the students, parents and community," says LPSS superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper in a prepared statement. "She initially intended to resign as a result of an unfortunate misunderstanding."

Today's release also includes a statement from Voorhies, who says "I love the Northside High School community, and I appreciate Dr. Cooper's support for our work there. I look forward to continuing the work we've begun in creating a school that inspires our students to achieve and succeed."
