Natalie DeJean has a way with dressing. Whether she's wearing a vivid cocktail dress out on the town or Uggs and comfy pieces for her day at the studio, the owner of Xtend Barre has a way of bringing something funky into the mix that marries timeless style and right-now fashion. Perhaps it's her more sensible roots - the beauty is, after all, an attorney - that give her a grounded foundation for creating looks that are always on point. Her style choices are a blend of uptown and downtown aesthetic. Of law books and ballet bars. Of the practical and the fun. The mistress of balance has certainly struck the perfect balance in her personal style.

IND Monthly: Who/What are your style inspirations?
Natalie DeJean: Greta Trotter. Not only is she my future mother-in-law but she has a timeless style and is so well put together all of the time.

IM: How would you describe your approach to dressing and personal style?
ND:
I like to look polished but I always try to throw something different in the mix to make my look more funky.

IM: Style icon you admire most?
ND:
Gwyneth Paltrow.

IM: Any rules you follow? The DOs and DON'Ts of Natalie so to speak?
ND:
If you're not comfortable with what you're wearing, it shows. Make an effort when you get dressed in the morning and you'll be surprised how much it changes your outlook on the day.

IM: Do you have a signature color or piece?
ND:
You can almost always catch me walking to my studio with a handbag from kiki.

IM: Any fashion addictions?
ND:
Definitely handbags. They're a major problem. And workout clothes, of course.

IM: Tips for shopping?
ND:
Trends are great and fun while they last, but that's why they're called trends - because they never do. Don't spend a lot of money on something that's a trend. Invest in good, classic pieces that are timeless and turn to places like Forever 21 and Zara to get those trendy pieces at a lower price point.

IM: How has your style evolved over time?
ND:
While practicing law, I was very preppy and polished. Now that I've switched careers, I'm able to dress a lot more comfortably but I've also gotten to play with my style a little more.

IM: What are you loving right now in the world of fashion?
ND:
Leather tops.

IM: Any predictions on what you'll be living in this winter?
ND:
My new moto boots from Hemline.

IM: Most memorable fashion moment?
ND:
Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's wedding dress or Gwyneth Paltrow's Calvin Klein at the 2011 Oscars. It's a tie.

IM: Anything you simply will never ever wear?
ND:
Nope, I'll try anything once.

IM: Favorite quality in a man?
ND:
Ambition.

IM: If not you, who would you be?
ND:
My sister, Caroline.

IM: Natural talent you'd love to have?
ND:
A good voice.

IM: Do you have a secret skill or talent?
ND:
I can change a spark plug on a 4-wheeler.

IM: Your idea of happiness?
ND:
My life.
