Vermilionville launches a free, currated monthly film series to highlight the diverse mix of cultures in Louisiana beginning with Ken Burns' Huey Long on Monday, Jan. 28.
Vermilionville has announced a new monthly film series that will cherry pick films centered on the unique culture of Louisiana. Titled Les Vues, the film series is free an open to the public and will be held the last Monday of each month beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Vermilionville Performance Center.
Each month's entry in the Les Vues Film Series-whether it be a feature-length film, student film, documentary, short film or animation-will be curated by filmmakers and cultural advocates from across the state. After each screening, the featured curator will open a dialogue with the audience to discuss the certain themes presented in the movie and how they apply to each culture.
For its inaugural screening on Monday, Jan. 28, the Les Vues Film Series will feature the Ken Burns documentary Huey Long, which will be currated by Dr. Michael Martin of the Center for Louisiana Studies at UL Lafayette.
Although the admission to the films is free, a $5 donation is requested from the venue to aid with screening and curating costs. For more information visit Vermilionville.org or call (337) 233-4077.
