Cinema on the Bayou launches at AcA

Louisiana's second oldest film festival kicks off its five-day weekend of screenings and special events on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Acadiana Center for the Arts with the festival's founder Pat Mire premiering his latest film Sushi and Sauce Piquante.

The Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival launches Wednesday night at the AcA with the premiere of Sushi and Sauce Piquant from the festival's Artistic Director and Founder Pat Mire.

The film, which was shot in both the US and Japan,  takes a look at the unique interaction of the Cajun and Japanese cultures through the perspective of legendary guitar player Gerry McGee, son of the famous Cajun fiddler Dennis McGee, who makes an annual pilgrimage to the island nation to perform as lead guitarist in the instrumental band The Ventures.

Louisiana's second longest running film festival, Cinema on the Bayou, will be held from Wednesday, Jan. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 27 at venues across Lafayette including Acadiana Center for the Arts, Vermilionville and Pack & Paddle with screenings, filmmaker panels, workshops geared towards the advancement and prominence of the Cajun and Creole cultures.

The opening ceremony for the 8th Annual Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 23, starting at 6:30 p.m. at theAcadiana Center for the Arts in downtown Lafayette. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at acadianacenterforthearts.org.
