Sweet sweet style

by Amanda Bedgood

Demure, ladylike, lovely

Love is in the air. Actually, more like chocolate. Or the love of chocolate, but all those heart shaped boxes filled with sweets remind us that Valentine's Day is fast approaching. And so, in the coming couple of weeks we'll pay homage to the holiday of love with some lovely style. Our first round of super sweet pieces starts with the lovely, ladylike wares we've spotted about town.

There are a few ways to sweeten up any look with wearing pink head to toe. And they all start with a bow. A simple, sweet bow. Whether a necklace with a simple charm or a cuff that looks like a giant gold bow, we're loving that little hint of sweetness. We eyed just such an accent at Artesia with this bow-shaped ring. It would be perfect with a black and white polka dot top (it's all about the black and white, you know) and something with a retro vibe a la 50s. It could also be the cool contrast for a tougher look that includes some accessories on the spiky side.

Over at Vertigo, a blush-hued top with sheer sleeves and lace details can go naughty or nice. Pair with waxed jeans and funky booties for romantic rocker or try something more demure and add a strand of pearls and black pencil skirt. We'd also love it with the flirty, short circle skirt that's gaining ground this season. Even a pleated skirt (how Clueless) would be presh.

And for the business approach to sweetheart dressing we look toward the peplum. There's something totally retro, yet modern about one of my favorite new shapes. There are few things that beat the feminine perfection of the peplum. Make it red like this dress from Brother's and you've got a super sweet look that's grown up enough for the board room and sexy enough for drinks after five.
