Lafayette airport sets activity record

Passenger activity beats the previous year's totals for the third consecutive year.

Passenger activity at Lafayette Regional Airport last year set a record. A total of 459,119 passengers flew into and out of the airport in 2012, topping the previous number of 455,730 set in 2011, according to an airport press release. The record marks the third year in a row that the previous year's record was broken.

In December 17,189 passengers boarded planes at the airport, while another 17,071 passengers arrived. Load factors, the number of passengers flying on an airline compared to the number of seats available, continued to be high in December for all three carriers.

Leading the way was Delta Connection/Atlanta with 88.7 percent of seats filled, followed by United Airlines/Houston with 76.1 percent and American Eagle/Dallas with 74.5 percent.

Loaded cargo in December totaled 859,212 pounds, and unloaded cargo totaled 1,171,556 pounds. Loaded cargo for 2012 was 10,272,239 pounds and a total of 14,147,698 pounds arrived.
