The confessed killer of Mickey Shunick and Lisa Pate, in his most recent hand-written court filings - submitted into the record Thursday - is requesting names of the grand jury witnesses who testified against him, as well as the placing of a gag order on the 15th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

Those requests, and others, were received Jan. 22 by the 15th JDC, following a request Lavergne submitted in December to Judge Herman Clause asking for a dismissal of the guilty pleas he submitted Aug. 7 for the first-degree murders of Shunick and Pate, which ultimately saved him from a possible death sentence.

"The petitioner feels the state is playing politics with his life and attempting to use the tide of public opinion to influence the judgment of this honorable court and in doing so further damage his ability to ever receive a fair trial," writes Lavergne, who is currently serving out a life sentence at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola.

Lavergne alleges he was pressured into making the Aug. 7 pleas, due to the possibility of his receiving the death penalty.
