Styles that satisfy: Hunger Games

by Amanda Bedgood

The odds will be ever in your favor with these diverse pieces.

Today we're feeling inspired by the franchise that launched current style crush Jennifer Lawrence into the pop culture stratosphere - The Hunger Games. There's something this IND Styler can't resist about a fierce girl who wields a bow and arrow with ease. Makes me all "girl power." And when the best selling book hit the big screen, costume designers created a world that's a visual feast with a diverse aesthetic from muted earth utilitarian pieces to flamboyant structured uber girly ensembles in spring's hot hues.

We'll start with the most diverse piece of clothing we've seen in a while. Over at Genetrie Supply Co. the fellas have an amazing pair of pants - the Zanerobe Sureshot Pants (how Katniss is that?), which Genterie gent John Petersen says are reminiscent of those beloved X-Pants carried by Structure about 15 years ago.

"These are totally the new X-Pants," according to John, who upon our admiration of said pants informed us the ladies are scooping them up as well.

We'd definitely rock a his and hers pair of these fawn green pants. Perfect with a tiny distressed T or even a silky flowy tank for spring with the season's must-have floral. Or for the guys a simple black shirt ala Peeta would work as well as a soft blue shirt topped with a vest.

Over at Sky Blue arrow-decked jewelry also calls to the Katniss in us.

While the more subtle nature-inspired pieces are on trend this spring, we're seeing a lot of structure as well. Structure so severe Effie Trinket would be proud - peplums in particular. The back of this peachy peplum from Herringstone's has a demure little bow we're digging. And mile high metallic shoes are just the sort of thing to wear with those fitted pencil skirts and structured jackets.

An Effie-inspired look wouldn't be complete without something for the head. So, while most of us aren't going to rock the enormous flowers she's working in the movie, we can do a vibrant hat with ruffly details like the super bright ones we spotted over at Jewelie's.

Whether you're Team Peeta or Gale, whether you're inspired by Katniss' cargo pants or Effie's peplums, there's certainly a way to kill it this season in the style department. May the style odds be ever in your favor.
