Dirt started flying this morning at the corner of Camellia and Settlers Trace boulevards, marking the start of construction for what will become the new regional headquarters for Whitney Bank.

Half of the 50,000-square-foot office complex, a $10 million undertaking by River Ranch Development called Camellia Tower V, will become Whitney Bank's new regional office, meaning it will move its existing headquarters out of downtown after a 30-year presence.

One question does remain though: Will Whitney keep open its downtown service branch on Lee Avenue? According to Duayne Richard, Whitney's Lafayette region president, no decision has been made.
