The audit says RSD schools haven't had proper accountability standards for monitoring the equipment. The audit says the costs of replacing lost or stolen property can shrink dollars for spending on other education needs.
Patrick Dobard, superintendent of the Recovery School District, says in a written response that the audit's finding is misleading. He says the RSD estimates that 70 percent of the items listed as missing have incorrect location codes - but are still present in schools.
Dobard says the district is working to correct the inventory tracking.
