Turn it up

High volume balances the body this spring

I love volume when it comes to dressing - big billowing sleeves,  slinky voluminous pants and retro bell bottoms. They've all arrived for spring offering everyday looks that are as en vogue as they are so comfy. Perhaps it's why these sort of pieces find their way into my everyday wardrobe. (That and the truth that a bit of volume on a sleeve gives your middle a little whittle if you hit the right proportions.)

At Vanessa V. a vibrant red top with bold sleeves pairs beautifully with skinny black pants, but would also work with a pair of wild palazzo pants or the pair of crisp white jeans at Hemline with a hem so wide they beg for a hunk of a wedge sandal (think cork or rope on the details).

If you're a little less fearless on the volume, a top like the white one over at Coco Eros is just the ticket to go from a day at the office with tailored trousers to night with a skinny jean or a pair of slinky silk pants like those we spotted over at Bevo's (Vanessa V. also carries these). In a print with one of this IND Styler's absolute favorite hues (that dreamy Tiffany blue) as a detail, these silky pants are the perfect way to transition from spring's cool mornings to warmer afternoons and stay ahead of the trend curve (printed pants and shorts are huge huge). Volume without too much drama - just how we like it this time of year.
